Talking To Your Sons...It May All Be In The Positioning

I'm probably not telling you anything you didn't already know.  Ah, but are you using that information as you communicate with your boy children and girl children?  That's the key, isn't it?  Learning to communicate well using two very different styles.  Here's what I mean.  Boys (and men, for that matter) like to look straight ahead when they are talking.  They don't really want to look eye to eye.  It doesn't mean that they are not sincere but just that they are more comfortable.  I think they can stay in their head's (so to speak) more easily in this posture.  Girls, on the other hand (and women, in general) prefer to look you eye to eye or face to face.  How many times have you heard yourself say to your boy child, look at me when I am talking to you?

You may want to try a different tactic.  I found that for me it was helpful to be in the car when I spoke to my son.  That way I had to face forward which kept me within his communication comfort level.  This did not work as well for my girls.  Interesting, huh.

Observe your boys and girls for the next week or so.  Watch their body language as they speak to you and others.  Notice anything?  If you find, as I did, that your boys like to 'face forward' then try that when you are speaking with them.

IT'S YOUR TURN TO TALK BACK!  WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS?

  • Did you observe your boys and girls for a week? What did you discover?
I want to hear your thoughts. Talk back in a comment down below.
