When the time comes to buy your teenager’s first vehicle, there are many things to consider.  What kind of car does he want?  Which ones are the safest?  What will the gas mileage be?  Which ones are the most dependable?  With all these questions in mind, where to start can be confusing.  

Going online and looking up the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is a good place to start.  They provide information on which vehicles were rated best in their car crash tests.  Along with safety, IntelliChoice provides information on gas mileage and how much repairs will cost. Once you are finished researching the safest, most reliable car with the best gas mileage, the next step is shopping.

It is suggested that SUVs are not the best vehicle for a first car because they can be too big and hard to handle.  Sports cars are also deemed bad first cars because if your teenager is in a fast, sporty car, chances are he will want to speed.  This can lead to speeding tickets and possible accidents.  The better car to purchase is a sedan, like the Honda Accord coupe which can be viewed as being sporty without being too slow.  Other good first cars are the Honda Civic, Ford Focus and the Mazda3.  Not only are these the best cars for teens, according to the Consumer Reports, but they're pleasing to the eye and fun to drive.

Doing extensive research on the vehicle you are considering will make the decision easier.
