Supportive Parents Make A Huge Difference

Balancing the many responsibilities of parenting can sometimes be overwhelming. Attending school conferences, Back-to-School night, seasonal concerts, sporting events and other school functions can be a challenge for many parents. But, it is one of the parts of parenting that can be the most rewarding.
Attending school functions is an extremely important way to show your children how much you support them. They may tell you "not to come," but don't believe them. It does mean a lot to them to see you at their events.
Join the P.T.A., become a band booster, serve on the board for a sport team, be a room parent, but if you can't do any of those things, attend your child's events. Your kid will know that you are there and will know that you care.
Yes, it does take some effort to get yourself to the soccer field or to watch a band practice late on a Wednesday night. But no one loves to watch your kid more than you do. So, take advantage of those moments, take a deep breath, enjoy their activity, get to know the other parents and realize that the years will go by very quickly.
Your child will know that you care, you will be "in the know" on your child's activities, and you will also be aware if there are any problems much sooner than if you never attend.
Attending Back-to-School-Night is very important to you, your child, your child's teacher(s) and your child's school. Showing your interest and support lets you know what will be expected of your student during the year. You can plan family activities around test dates and large school assignments which will help your student be more successful.
By making the effort to attend and support your child's various activities you are showing them that you care. Students whose parents participate are more likely to do better in school, have better self-esteem, and are more likely to make sound decisions when exposed to peer pressure. You are also teaching them one aspect of parenting that they will use during their own parenting.
