With today's busy schedules, it seems like we often don’t have time to attend school activities or functions.  We don’t think that it is very important.  We only seem to focus on our kids' grades.  But studies have shown that children whose parents are more involved in school activities tend to be more successful.  Let’s take a look at a few ways that parental involvement equals a child’s success.

Attending school activities and functions lets your child know that you believe in him or her and in his or her ability to succeed.  Parental involvement also shows your child that school is important.  If you spend time volunteering, it also will help the school itself and other students.  Schools depend on volunteers to help them each year.  That also teaches your child the value of volunteering and helping others.  Staying involved in your child's education will help your child succeed.  By volunteering you are telling your child that  1) you value education, 2) you are "around" if they really need you and 3) you support the school administration and staff.  All valuable lessons for your child to experience.

Staying involved in your child's education and activities are critical to your child's future success.  So take a moment each day to talk to your child about his/her school day, to check the homework folder, to check communication logs from teachers, to attend school functions/activities and to look for opportunities to get involved at your child’s school.   You'll be glad you did.
